Description

The Fourriers have 0.8 ha of this 4.76 ha vineyard at the top of the hill. The vines were planted in 1928 and Jean Marie reports very good survival rates up there so little replacement over the years. Again, pure red to the eye but very deep and bright without being opaque. Softer nose of vanilla, spice, caramel, anise and floral notes. There was still some gas in the barrel in January 2006 but I could certainly feel the length, creamy richness and sturdy black and red fruits. Real force here. 2014 to 2022.

Producer Information: Domaine Fourrier

In 1995 Jean-Marie Fourrier took over the winemaking from his father Jean-Claude, who had been making the wines since 1967, at first in partnership with his uncle, from whom many of the vines were inherited. Jean-Marie has a broader perspective than many of his fellow winemakers, as he spent time making Pinot Noir in Oregon, as well as training in France. Today, Domaine Fourrier is achieving critical acclaim but Jean-Marie is still young and ambitious to achieve even more. His star may be firmly in the ascendant but his feet are firmly rooted in the vineyards of Gevrey.
