Description

Grapes predominantly from a 1988 vineyard but also includes 10% Pinotage. Fermented in tank (about a third whole-berry) and matured for 10 months in retired Kliprug barrels. Some floral fragrance, red and black cherry, plums, earth and spice on the nose while the palate combines succulence with tannins that are just grippy enough. Good fruit density and bright acidity, the finish nicely dry. Substantial, balanced and long. 93/100 CE, Winemag.co.za

Producer Information: Kaapzicht

Kaapzicht is a family owned and run wine estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa, which is situated on the 34° Latitude South. The name "Kaapzicht" (Cape View) comes from the fantastic view from our hills over Cape Town and Table Mountain. The Steytler family has farmed here since 1946 and the wines are made by Danie Steytler senior and junior, with Danie Steyler snr's brother George overseeing the vineyards.

Kaapzicht is a large property with around 160 of its 190 hectares planted to grapes. They do not irrigate the vineyards artificially and so the vines have pushed their roots deep into the weathered granite soil and bear small amounts of concentrated fruit. There are numerous aspects, with vineyards planted up to 200m above sea level, but soils are predominantly weathered granite.
