The Topside Syrah comes from west-facing slopes of the Stellenbosch Mountains at around 350-metres altitude on granite and sandstone soils. It is matured in 500-liter second-fill French oak for 20 months and bottled without filtration. it has a more exuberant bouquet compared to the Steepside, the fruit more sorbet-like and floral, with touches of candied orange peel and marmalade. The palate is succulent on the entry with great depth, supremely well-judged acidity and a structured finish that, like the Steepside, demands two or three years in bottle.
Producer Information: Keermont
Keermont Vineyards is a specialist wine estate set in the naturally-formed amphitheatre between the Helderberg and Stellenbosch mountain ranges. In 2001, the Wraith family moved to the Western Cape from Gauteng and in 2003 bought two adjacent farms which today make up Keermont Vineyards. All fruit is from Keermont vineyards, and each with an individual character and story. They aim to express the specific uniqueness of each plot, working with what they can naturally offer. Alex Starey is in charge of the vineyards and of making the estate’s wines. Employed at the start of the redevelopment of the farm in 2005, he enjoys the responsibility of making sure that the vineyards deliver the highest quality fruit to create the best possible wines.
