Description

A tight, steely feeling Cabernet Franc laced with graphite, spice and deeper
red and black fruits, finishing on a fresh herbal note with very precise
acidities. Lukas considers 2023 a super aromatic vintage, something he tries
to lean in to via long skin contact and the gentlest of extractions. Breton
comes from two sites: 75% from the vineyard next to Meerlust, where the
soils are a mix of granite, clay and gravel and 25% from the Polkadraai Hills
(Blue Gum Grove – Carinus), on decomposed granite. The final blend
amounted to 40% aged in concrete and 60% in 500L barrel. 96 Points, Tim

Producer Information: Van Loggerenberg

Lukas van Loggerenberg. The name is quite a mouthful - but then, so are his wines!

Despite owning no vineyards, he has managed to make quite an impact since we first tasted his Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Cinsault a few years back.

Devoted to expressing particular patches of earth, Lukas reminds visitors to his makeshift cellar that terroir is not everything and that some winemakers just have the touch and an instinct to make great wine. He likes to think of himself as “a farmer rather than a winemaker”.

All Lukas's wines are made without the aid of any additives, including commercial yeast.
