Description
On the Meursault side, but well above the Combettes. There is no new oak here. This time the wine has been racked into tank in August so has woken up by the time I taste and, with a gently golden hue, shows chunky, citrus and floral fruits. Again the sheer dimensions and complexity are so impressive and there’s an exotic twist at the end of a long finish. Very fine. 2028 to 2035
Producer Information: Domaine Thierry and Pascale Matrot
Now run by Adele and Ailsa Matrot, the third daughter. This domaine is Meursault's most significant in terms of vineyard holding and quality combined. Thierry is one of the few modern growers who prefers to store and sell wine when it is near to maturity, foregoing the cash advantage. However, he does release a few cases for sale 'En primeur'.
Always known for the quality of their Meursault they are beginning to get quite a reputation for the approachability and quality of their reds. Their red Meursault ‘LA PIECE SOUS LE BOIS’ is as great as ever. It's unusual but i cannot commend it to you highly enough.
