Description
6 bottle pack.
Having had a chance to taste the 2020 Burgundy vintage again, these six are offering great enjoyment in the glass even at this tender age. To recap, 2020 was a hot one but it really had it all. The warmth made it the early bird vintage with some southerly chardonnay vineyards starting harvest on 22nd Aug. To understate it really is a very pleasurable vintage, everything is in balance, it is the perfect equilibrium, simple restraint, but ample enjoyment. One pundit declared that these red Burgundies are the best in 150 years.
You get one bottle each of:
– Santenay Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2020 Quentin Jeannot – Strong and sinewy, yet still fine and elegant, tannins are ripe, silky and precisely tuned.
– Monthelie les Toisieres 2020 François Mikulski – Soft, ripe and easy on the eye. It is reasonably punchy but the overriding sensation is one of being sucked in by that siren that is Pinot Noir at its most lush.
– Savigny les Beaune, Hommage a Jean Ferte 2020 Domaine Roche de Bellene – This is a deep and pure red with an almost sweet intensity of red cherry, cranberry and raspberry fruit. One of the best expressions of Savigny that we have seen. Wonderful.
– Marsannay Charme aux Pretres 2020 Alain Guyard – Rich and balanced, it clearly expresses aromas of cherry and raspberry. On the palate, beautiful complexity, lots of substance and good persistence.
– Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru les Vergelesses Rouge 2020 Chanson – Rich, ripe and sumptuous, sweet and smooth, almost a new world in style, some tannins on the finish and very much drinking now.
– Rully Maizieres Rouge 2020 Domaine Dureuil-Janthial – This has bright fresh purple colour and there is plenty of fruit concentration on nose and palate. A delightfully lush expressive Rully.
