Description
Shimmering silver, green, and yellow in appearance and not giving too much away on the nose right now. There’s crushed slate, fresh mushroom, floral and lemon notes. There are no hard edges here and the wine will have rounded out beautifully by the time it lands in January 2023. Vivacious … it’s spring in a bottle! 2023 to 2025
Producer Information: Domaine Gerard Thomas
GERARD IS A KINDLY, ROBUST AND RUDDY FACED FARMER WHOSE LIFE HAS BEEN DEDICATED TO HIS VINEYARDS. HE HAS REBUILT SOME UNUSUALLY PRECARIOUS TERRACES, REPLANTED AND MAINTAINED HIS CHARDONNAY VINES WITH PRIDE.
THERE ARE TWO SAINT AUBINS ON OFFER (I NO LONGER BUY THE UNWOODED VERSION AND THE BLENDED 1ER CRU). THE FIRST IS ENDEARINGLY KNOWN AS ‘DOG’S TOOTH’ BY MANY CLIENTS. IN FACT THE STONES WHICH DEMARCATE THE LAND LOOK LIKE GIANT DOGS TEETH. THE SECOND TAKES ITS NAME FROM THE CATS THAT BASK IN THE SUN. FOR ME, LA CHATENIèRE IS ONE OF THE BEST WINES OF THE VILLAGE AND REPRESENTS VERY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY.
