Description

From a cooler, later-ripening vineyard of the domaine to get a finer, more filigreed and precise character, the 2021 Schloss Johannisberg Bronzelack Riesling Trocken was aged in large oak casks and stainless steel and offers a pure, fresh and coolish bouquet of ripe white fruits intertwined with concentrated lemon juice aromas and discreet phenolic notes. Medium-bodied, refined and elegant on the palate, this is a dry, fresh, finely grippy and classy Johannisberg Riesling with a more saline and edgy finish compared to the supple Gelblack. Still young, but with food, it's already enjoyable, yet it surely has the capacity to develop over a decade or more. Tonic citrus freshness and discreet mango flavors on the aftertaste.

Producer Information: Schloss Johannisberger

The legendary Schloss Johannisberg is steeped in history. The vineyards were planted on the orders of the Roman Emperor Charlemagne. Planted solely with Riesling grapes in 1720, Schloss Johannisberg was the world's first Riesling Estate and plays a significant part in wine history. It was here in 1775 that the Spätlese quality was discovered using late picked grapes suffering from "noble rot". Following this discovery, in 1787 the estate gave Auslese, Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese to the wine world.

Schloss Johannisberg is a single vineyard designation in its own right and one of a handful of German vineyards that does not have to display a village name on the label.
