Description

Only the finest Chardonnay grapes, handpicked from Stellenbosch's exceptional soils, are selected to create this remarkable Blanc de Blancs. The grapes undergo a gentle whole-bunch pressing, ensuring that only the highest-quality cuvée is used. The primary fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, preserving the wine's vibrant freshness and crisp fruit character. To maintain its purity and elegance, no malolactic fermentation is employed. The wine is then bottled to undergo its second fermentation in the bottle, where it ages on the lees for a minimum of three years, developing complexity and finesse.

Producer Information: Simonsig

Huguenot Jacques Malan arrived in the Cape from France in 1688 and to this day his family run the Simonsig estate, named after the imposing mountain that dominates the view. In 1971 the late Frans Malan produced South Africa’s first méthode traditionnelle (second ferment in bottle) sparkling wine calling it Kaapse Vonkel, meaning ‘Cape Sparkle’. A pioneer, Malan and the Kaapse Vonkel set a precedent and started the ball rolling for producers to come. Malan dubbed the style Method Cap Classique (MCC) as from 1992 the word Champagne or Champenoise was no longer legally allowed on the label. This was probably for the best, as any region riding on the back of another’s name will never truly reach their own, earned and respected recognition; and South African sparkling wine definitely deserves all the glory it’s getting. They also produce highly recognised bordeaux blends and pinotage.
