With our South Africa 2023 Vintage tasting coming up in December, we though we'd whet your appetite with a range of stunning reds from 2019, all from Stellenbosch. This was a vintage of really small yields, but the best producers selected only the highest quality fruit, and created wines of wonderful intensity and balance.

– Leeu Passant Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 Stellenbosch – Seductive notes of violets, sweet cedary spice, saline blackcurrant, hints of black tea and tilled earth. 5 stars Platter Guide 2022.
– Duncan Savage Red 2019 Stellenbosch – 100% Syrah from the Polkadraai Hills with 70% whole bunch fermentation. Earthy red and black berry fruits, black olives and a sappy cedary wood spice complexity. 95+ GS-MW
– Thelema Rabelais 2019 Stellenbosch – 90% Simonsberg Cab Sauv and 10% Petit Verdot. Perfumed violets, dried herbs, sweet cedar wood spice, coffee beans and some crushed slate and graphite. Simply outstanding. Tim Atkin MW gave this 98 points.
– Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet 2019 Stellenbosch – Pure perfumed aromatics of violets, sweet cherry tobacco, black chocolate and hints of blackberry, fynbos and cedar spice. An extremely elegant, classy fine wine. 5 stars Platter Guide 2022
– De Toren Fusion V 2019 Stellenbosch – A right-bank Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot are gently married to form a truly unique South African style. Cedar, tobacco, cherry, spiced plum, sandalwood and black spice.
– Kanonkop Paul Sauer Blend 2019 Stellenbosch – 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 11% Merlot. Showing tilled earth, nutmeg, bouquet garni, with classic cedar and red and black fruits. Tim Atkin MW gave this 98 points.
