2 bottle pack.
Super Tuscans are a style of wine born in the 1960's, created out of frustration with the restrictions of Tuscany's traditional wine production rules, when modern-thinking producers sought to make new styles and experiment outside the confines of the appellation system. Brands like Sassicaia and Ornellaia became rightly famous and darlings of wine critics, but with a hefty price-tag that can push them outside the budgets of many people.
But, these clever Tuscans also produce second and third wines, making them far more accessable, price-wise – Sassicaia having Guidalberto (2nd) and Le Difese (3rd), whilst Ornallaia have Le Serre Nuove (2nd) and Le Volte (3rd).
We're offering up a pack of with two of the best of these fantastic second wines – indeed, the first among seconds!
You'll get one bottle each of:
– Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2018
The 2018 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that is aged in oak for 15 months. The wine shows depth, concentration and generous fruit weight that adds to the intensity and the textural importance of this abundant, full-bodied expression. (93pts, Wine Advocate)
– Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto 2018
A deft and bright blend to serve with a platter of creamy Camembert wedges, the 2018 Guidalberto is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon supplemented with 40% Merlot, showing a smooth and silky delivery of aromas with black fruit and sour cherry backed by spice, pressed flower and tilled earth. These are fragrant and delicate results fitted to a medium-weight finish that is driven by freshness and elegant tannins. (92pts, Wine Advocate)
