Description

Villevert Vieux Breton is a small estate located in the Chinon appellation of the Loire Valley, France. The family’s vineyards are predominantly planted with Cabernet Franc, the signature grape of Chinon. Le Clos Noire is one of the estate’s flagship wines, showcasing the complexity and ageing potential of Cabernet Franc from old vines. The figure on the label is ‘le légionnaire,’ a term referring to the salt-of-the-earth locals of the Loire. 2016 was a superb vintage in Chinon, and this bottle truly sings. Only 1,344 bottles were produced!

The wine is packed with ripe dark fruits, such as blackberries and plums, intertwined with earthy notes of tobacco, graphite, and subtle hints of leather and dried herbs. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with a rich yet balanced texture and finely integrated tannins. There is that classic Cabernet Franc savoury undertone, with a touch of minerality from the limestone-rich soils. The wine’s acidity is bright, providing a refreshing lift that carries through to a long, elegant finish.
