We have bagged a parcel of the Bakleiblok Cinsault 2022 from this corner of his Wellbedacht Farm. Planted over 30 years ago but rather neglected, these old vines have been nurtured and encouraged to give a mid weight, refreshing, raspberry and red plum fruited beauty. Bakleiblok, or 'fight block', is so named as there is more than one vineyard worker claiming to have done all the hard work in reclaiming this wonderful parcel!

Sports mad Schalk Burger bought Welbedacht in 1997. As well as the neighbouring farm and the two Welbedacht Estate farms meant that all wine was grown, made and bottled on the Estate. They renovated the old Manor home, built their own full-sized cricket field, a 1,000-ton cellar, planted new vineyards as well as the restoring some 40-year-old vineyards; to make Welbedacht the blossoming haven it is today. They have a total of 110 hectares of fine vineyards. The 12 cultivars that we produced are Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Cinsaut, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Merlot and Mourvedre. The Burger family have become synonymous with rugby in South Africa as well as the world with Schalk snr and Schalk jnr becoming the 8th father and son to both play for South Africa.
