Description
The 2009 Cote Rotie La Mouline possesses off-the-charts richness. Like all the vintages, it comes from the Cote Blonde and is co-fermented with 11% Viognier. Its 13.5% alcohol is one of the highest in all the La Moulines made to date, which shows you that these wines are never that powerful. Extraordinary layers of concentration offer up notes of roasted coffee, sweet black cherries, black raspberries, blackberries, licorice and hints of spring flowers as well as lychee nuts (no doubt attributable to the floral/honeysuckle character of Viognier). With its full-bodied, extravagant richness, the 2009 La Mouline should be relatively approachable in 1-2 years, and last for two decades or more. 100/100 RP

Etienne Guigal left neighbouring firm, Vidal Fleury in 1946 to set up on his own. In 1985 he bought out his former employers. The négociant is now run by his son Marcel.
The jewels in their crown are four exquisite vineyard sites in Côte Rôtie. Guigal makes this wines in a quite unique style using new oak barrels and then allowed to settle in both small barriques and large oak foudres. This allows the wine to settle naturally through its second winter. There is no fining or filtration.
Their other great wine is Condrieu, whose quality has been amplified since the acquisition of some of the regions finest.
The greatness of this estate prompted Robert Parker to write ‘I don’t believe there is another wine maker or wine producing estate in the world that has ever put together such an array of monumental wines as these.’
